The tree alone could make the landscape look so scary or awkward. Also, the surrounding environment of the tree might not be conducive to its roots and would require you to just transfer it to another place.

You should also shop around. List all the local nurseries, garden centers, and other places where you could buy or dig your live tree. Are you going to choose what you would like to have or are they willing to dig out the one you would really want to have. Ask them how much you are going to pay after getting all those services.

If they already got some ready to buy plants, then you have to visit their nursery and inspect it. It would really not matter whether those plants were still in the soil, freshly dug, or grown out from containers. It is your sole responsibility to check on them and see if all of them are healthy. Always ensure the soil is soft and damp. This means the farm or nursery really takes good care of the plant they sell. They might be the one for you.

If you prefer those that are still in the ground, then you really have to properly dig the plant. Ask for the help of the professionals. If you cannot find them anywhere, might as well dig the entire thing yourself. Start digging from the outside until you sense some protruding roots. You can even watch other people how they properly dig.

Last, handle your plant with care as you transport it to your place. When lifting it, hold the roots and not the trunk. When placing down, never drop it because its roots can be damaged as it forcefully hit the ground.
