The NBA All Star Weekend Schedule 2017 Is Here

By Michael Wagner

Each year, the National Basketball Association, or NBA, holds an All-Star weekend full of fun and events for all ages. For 2017, the festivities are set to be held in Charlotte, North Carolina. When the announcement was made, the All Star Weekend Schedule 2017 was also announced so that fans can plan which events they want to go to.

The last time that Charlotte was host to the annual NBA romp, the year was 1991. The Hornets were a young expansion team still trying to break out. Now they are seasoned team with many playoff appearances, and they play in the Time Warner Cable Arena. Many things have changed since 1991, which makes city and state officials even more excited to showcase their city.

The first day of festivities will be on Friday, February 17, 2017. That is the day of the BBVA Compass Rising Stars Challenge. This pits the best rookies in the league team up with the best second year players in the league. The teams are divided into USA versus the World, so rookies and sophomores born in the US face off against foreign players.

If you have a favorite legend that you never got to see in person growing up, then perhaps the Degree Shooting Stars Game is for you. It features famous players of yesteryear from both the NBA and WNBA going against each other in a fun competition for the fans. This is the event that helps kick off the Saturday, February 18 All-Star weekend festivities.

Then there is the Taco Bell Skills Challenge, where players from around the league who are good ball handlers, such as point guards, show off their skills in a timed challenge. The Foot Locker Three-Point Contest follows, which allows the best distance shooters in the league to try and make the most 3-point shots in an allotted amount of time. Finally, one of the most popular challenges, the Slam Dunk Contest, tips off with young, big slamming stars taking center stage.

Of course, the finale is the All-Star Game itself, which takes the best players from the Eastern Conference and lets them try to beat the best from the Western Conference. There are living legends, superstars in training and so much more. There is also a concert sponsored by Sprint that day to further entertain. All of this is on February 18, a Sunday.

In addition, there will be other events in the Charlotte area where fans can do things such as watch players practice, watch celebrities who play basketball compete in a charity game, and more. The NBA D-League also gets some attention in the form on the Dream Factory events plus their own All-Star game held at a different offsite location.

Parties are a part of the fun, but the NBA only has a few official ones, usually. That does not stop other people across the city from throwing their own unofficial ones. If you wish to watch from home, inviting friends and family over is a fun way to have your own party while enjoying the spectacle and stars that are a part of this fun annual NBA showcase.
