What Is A Christian Social Justice Blog

By Marci Nielsen

The gospel of Jesus Christ is regarded as one founded on social justice. As the issues facing humanity change, it is not surprising to see a spectacular Christian social justice blog that captures the message in light of the teachings by Jesus. While many handle issues from a Christian perspective, few can be regarded as faithful to the fundamentals of Christianity.

The basic tenet of defining a blogger as oriented to the gospel of Christ is fidelity to the Word. Some bloggers have been known to skew the Word of God to suit their intentions. This means that the interpretation of the Word does not meet the standards required of Christianity and its teachings. In some cases, the aim is to achieve an end that is different from what the gospel intended.

Identity of such blogs can also be determined by the message they carry and the issues that are of concern to them. With increased environmental degradation, health concerns, wars, education and conservation, Christians have been forced to wade into the debate through blogs. There are advocates whose aim is to ensure that resources around the world are distributed equitably. Their voice can be heard from blogs.

Advances in societies have led to inventions and technology that can be useful or misused. Experts in technology highlight beneficial inventions and their application in changing the lives of populations. Blogs focus on innovations and technology that can transform the lives of individuals as well as be misused to their disadvantage.

The people or organization responsible for running a blog may also be a sign of its content and identity. Religious leaders have appreciated the power of the internet in reaching a younger generation. They address issues of concern in a language that is easier to understand for the technology savvy faithful. The information is easier to understand for the young people despite the message having been drawn from the teachings of Christ who lived centuries ago.

Politics is an integral part of any social justice advocacy mission. The leaders elected in a country make decisions and come up with policies that affect the masses under their jurisdiction. The blogs are used to scrutinize decisions made by such leaders through the Christian sieve. The aim is to protect the masses from policies that would be designed to favor small elite at the expense of the masses.

Christianity is facing increased pressure from social changes. The traditional definition of marriage is under attack from single parenthood, gays and homosexuals, among other definitions. Bloggers are using their platforms to advocate for the Christianity understanding of father, mother and children. However, as churches divide and hold alternative views, the blogs get divided as well. Some push for the traditional definition while others advocate for a pragmatic approach.

Blogs are also being used to highlight the exemplary work of leaders and groups around the world. Groups and individuals are engaged in missions to different areas around the world with the aim alleviating the plight of afflicted populations. Blogs highlight the works and the results of their work. Blogging is changing approach to advocacy and ensuring that more people have access to justice. The credibility of blogs will depend on the person or institution in charge.
