Indiana Free Divorce Records Free Online

By Claire Dowell

A divorce record is the only legal document that supports the validity of an ended marriage. In other states, divorce records can be found at their Vital Statistics Office together with other public records. However, in the case of Indiana Divorce Records, they are found at the specific county Clerk of Courts where the divorce was finalized.

Divorce files are considered as public files. Therefore, any member of the public can ask for a copy of the files as long as proper procedures are observed. The basic details of the files are disclosed but some details are considered confidential and can be viewed only by people who are specified by the court such as the couple, their lawyers, and certain parties. Those who are not specified by the court will only be provided by a simple file that contains proof that a divorce is finalized.

If you plan on getting a divorce, there is a one year residency requirement and all of the states in America observe that law. Subsequently, when a divorce is made official, it is recognized nationwide regardless of which state it transpired. A divorce document is a requirement when applying for a marriage license so make sure that you have the document when you decide to marry again. And if you have some assets and properties that you wish to collect from your old marriage, you can also use the documents to make such claims.

In obtaining the documents, fill-out a request form which you can get from the Indiana Department of Health or a particular county Clerk of Court. If you are unaware of which county Clerk of Court they are available, just send it directly to the Department of Health and they will forward it to the appropriate Clerk of Court. They also maintain their own website and there you can also see the request form that is a printable version. Write down all the required information and hand it personally to the appropriate office or you may mail it. Bear in mind that you will be charged for each request.

Divorce files can also be obtained through online search tools. You do not have to worry about legality issues because they are recognized by the court. There are a number of search tools available and most of them are real. However, bogus search tools are also present. To avoid getting victimized by bogus search tools, conduct a background check on them before choosing which one to avail the services of.

Since Divorce Records Are Public records, you can easily find them. There are service providers that provide the records for free while some render certain fees. Both types are capable of providing the basic pieces of information of the records such as the full names of the husband and the wife, their respective birthdays, date and venue of divorce, etc. You can start a search by simply providing a full name and you get results in a matter of seconds.
