By Krystal Branch

The science of corporate team building activities entails doing things that will add value to the strength of the company. The fact that team building falls under organizational psychology is an added advantage to any corporate. It encourages communication hence motivating the work force for better results.

Team building is a process that takes a little bit of time before realizing tangible results, and thus not an event that has overnight results. This is due to the fact that there are different phases of these activities that need cooperation of all members. If the activities are organized regularly, then it will not only motivate the members but also increase their productivity levels.

There are a good number of team building models that come in varying forms, and if implemented they will result in positive changes. However, some of the methods may take relatively longer to have an impact as compared to others. If full strengths of individuals are to be realized, then the activities should be organized regularly.

Employee feedback activities when done periodically tend to achieve better results if they are well organized. If carried out after every two to three months, then there are going to be tangible results which are positive in nature. In this case, the employees will learn to speak freely in between themselves about things affecting them and hence improved communication.

Some of the activities may revolve around the use of language and how the management would like to be addressed outside the office. In this situation, the top management gives the employees the freedom to address them informally and thus building their trust in seeing you as one of them but not a boss who is unreachable. In fact, it is through activities like day trips that are full of fun where corporate walls are brought down and doors opened.

The success of individual members in the group should be celebrated and relevant group discussions introduced. This will definitely improve the communication amongst team members at the work place. However, the best thing is to know what is affecting the members before you even think about introducing any activity. The aim of this is to achieve positive results within a short span of time.

There are several important questions that you ought to ask yourself before choosing an activity that best suits your employees. First of all, you must understand the reasons why the members of your group are conflicting. If not, ask yourself what is the best activity that can help them understand each other better? Do members need morale booster programs to improve on communication? Or do you need to control one member whose ambition is hurting the whole group? When you decide on any activity, ensure that these questions will address directly the issues that are affecting your group.

Corporate team building activities that have proven to achieve better results include; stereotype parties, mine filed games, human spring, and survival scenario models. Different things are more often achieved in these programs. Some will achieve better communications in the group whereas others will only but motivate.
