Learning To Take The Forward Look In Spite Of Difficulties

By Francis Riggs

Life is tough as they say, and we all know it from personal experience. There are times when it is hard for the forward look. It is second nature to live in the past with all its repercussions. You can get bogged down in the negativity of the present as well. We all face adversity and need a lesson or two on optimism. You don't, however, want to dwell on what went wrong.

Look ahead and you will feel more alive. You will cut the cord of negativity as you move on. You can't avoid mistakes, but you can go on to new opportunities. Get over it, people say, and they are absolutely right. Face the tough times with aplomb. Learn from them with maturity and wisdom. It is hard to accept hurting other people, for example, and taking the blame. You can start over or seek new relationships. In any case, a new view of life is at hand.

Fixing the errors in your life takes some effort, but it can be rewarding. You can, in effect, have a fresh start. You will need to interact with people and cope with situations to do so. You can't bury your head in the sand forever. There is a life lesson at every turn. Pay attention and take note.

We all evolve and change, and so we must embrace this fact. You are not always starting over again from square one, but are moving forward with a new outlook. That is the definition of optimism and the root of happiness. Okay, you had some bad times; but there are good ones ahead. Learn to accept change as the origin of progress. Learn to become a new person every day.

People are victims of their memories and they may not forgive you right away. You can't act as if nothing has happened, in effect, going back to square one. It will color the future of your relationships; hence the need to avoid negative behavior in the long run. Change is the watchword of personal success. Make it a reality and apply it as needed.

Ask help. Asking for help is not a sign of weakness. It means you are strong enough to move on and be a better person. If you want to quit smoking for example, and you have accepted it and want to change, you cannot do it if your smoking buddy continues to ask you to go out for a puff.

Moving forward is the key to a good life, leaving the bad behind. No one lives an idyllic life, but we can control it to some degree. Sometimes you have to let things and people go. You can find others who will make you satisfied and happy. It is also wise to look for role models you can look up to and whose advice you require.

Of great importance to note, God is there to listen, so speak freely through daily prayer. You will feel renewed and refreshed as a result. There may be no better way to accept adversity than beseeching the Lord for help. This has been the most valuable recourse for many a wayward soul.
